Holden's

My name is Holden. I am a student at Parsons: The New School for Design in NYC. I enjoy everything from cars to fashion, music, musicals, sports, boys, photography, and anything that give me those jitters to create. This is what excites me.

Mugler has never been about being tame or classic. Its use of materials like liquid latex and plastic, and its severe shapes and cut outs that make it one of the more unique shows to watch. Its menswear is the same, and here its pretty damn sexy. The cutouts are so fucking cool, the spiked pockets coming out the bottom of the shorts is a new, cool shape, and the iridescent fabrics and uniquely color snake skin give the show a nice dynamic.

Painterly prints have been almost everywhere for SS13. Ferragamo gives us a bright mix and match, lightweight, and all around cool collection for next summer. Even separately these pieces are must haves. I really like how he’s pairing these outfits with contrasting accessories and the athletic shoes are killer. I also love the messy dip dying and the hand painting put into some of the pieces. Just an overall fun, colorful collection.

I look forward to seeing what Christopher Kane takes from everyday life and turns into a cool print. This is one of the reasons I love menswear right now. Gone are the stripes and plaids, now menswear is just as visually interesting as womenswear. This season Chris Kane gives us a collection smeared with paint as swatches and as all over prints. Undoubtedly, there are some cool pieces for the artistic type that wants that just out of the studio look, but what I love about it is that they can be paired with just about anything. Those brush stroke pants are fucking awesome. Along with the prints that Kane does (usually) every season, he also adds in some solid pieces. Here he gives us a nice poplin short with an elastic waist and a slide release plastic belt buckle.

Carven, a company that I had previously not been interested in, looked good to me for SS13. I preferred certain pieces and styling over the collection as a whole, but actually it is a nice direction for the youthful brand. Like many designers this season, activewear played a noticeably inspiring role. Guillaume Henry paired nylon shorts with sweaters and plaid button fronts which together gave it an innocent, school boy look. They also used prints like a nice, airy floral that just furthered the cute vibe. The use of green, Carven’s signature color, was great too. I crave the green biker jacket! All in all I look forward to what Carven will show in the future.

Don’t get me wrong, I love anything perfectly tailored and all the craftsmanship that goes into tailoring, but one can only look at suits for so long before it gets to be a little tiring. For Spring/Summer 2013 Christopher Bailey might have felt the same way. He injected cool metallics in with the traditional tailoring Burberry is known for, which gave it a fresh feel. Combining some of those metallics with the Bloomsbury Group prints looked young and modern, especially when the printed tops were cut longer. As always, some irresistible outerwear pieces were thrown into the mix, like a foiled metallic fuchsia trench and a raglan sleeve, ochre and mauve bomber. The show closed with the must-have metallic bombers and baseball jackets that I can’t wait to be seen, along with the other pieces in the collection, in editorials in the upcoming months.

Adele

—Set Fire To The Rain Instrumental Version

The most amazing instrumental cover of Adele’s Set Fire to the Rain. I could listen to this all day!

Okay, firstly I must say how much I have been obsessing over prints for the past few months. Everything I have bought must be printed!! It all started when I saw the Givenchy SS12 show. It was amazing. Now I know that Riccardo Tisci’s prints have been criticized in the past for being ugly but I think that they are edgy, graphic, modern, and daring for men. If only men dressed more like they were in editorials (money aside)!!! These are just a few of my favorite shots of the amazing Birds of Paradise Print and the sick magnetic Horn Earrings.

I haven’t posted anything in awhile but that’ll change!

Heya followers!

I have been crazy busy for the last semester of my life between Jr Preview, putting together a digital portfolio and just dealing with the normal stresses of life.

Glad to say though that everything came out amazing and my Jr Preview look book will be up shortly.

I will be posting more often like I typically did along with post things that are my own from now on.

Keep posted for some great posts!
